Brainy Statement on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity

The recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery have drawn back the curtain to the many injustices experienced by Black Americans. They reflect the deep structures of racism and discrimination embedded within the United States from the start.

Unfortunately, neuroscience is not immune to racial discrimination and to structures of exclusion. Members of our community regularly face barriers and difficulties due to their race.

As the New York Chapter of the Society of Neuroscience, we restate our core values of diversity, inclusion, and equity. We have a long way to go to ensure the talent of our scientists is recognized and we are committed to doing better.
