BioBase 2014

Information: There will be a series of learning stations which will teach about all kinds of neuroscience topics including brain anatomy, how the brain produces electricity, how the brain senses, perceives, learns and remembers, and what types of things you can do to have a healthy brain.  A hands-on approach to learning will be emphasized, as the learning stations will incorporate games and activities where you can play with science experiments.  Several microscopes will be available to view images of the brain as well as learn about genetics and genetic engineering through the examples of fluorescent proteins and genetically-manipulated flies.  In the next door amphitheater, there will be a screening of science videos from finalists and winners of various 2013 science video competitions.  Four lectures will be highlighted in this space where you will get to learn about topics including smell and the brain, exercise and the brain, mental health from a clinical perspective, and how to become a neuroscientist.  A special panel of undergraduate-level neuroscience students will also be available to talk about college and how to get involved in science after high school.
