BraiNY Bunch is back!

Interested in neuroscience and want to learn more? BraiNY Bunch is a great place to learn about different areas of neuroscience and how neuroscientists study brains and nervous systems.  BraiNY Bunch is a virtual neuroscience journal club held monthly and co-led by two high school and/or early college students with mentorship and guidance from graduate students, research associates, or postdocs. A journal club is a regular meeting of scientists and learners to read and discuss the latest findings in their field of interest.

Everyone is welcome. Meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month over Zoom from 12:00-1:00PM EST. Click on the image above to sign up as a presenter or mentor and to see the schedule for the 2022-2023 school year.

For advocacy and outreach

The Flux Outreach Event – North/South America | September 21, 8pm EST

This panel discussion, sponsored by the Jacob’s Foundation, will focus on how educators can bridge communication gap between scientists and community members by addressing 1) what developmental cognitive neuroscience is, 2) what we are learning about the young brain in action, and 3) how to recruit, train, and support diverse future scientists who do impactful work for their communities. Featuring BraiNY member Dr. Ali Cohen as a panelist! Register using the link above.

IRBO/Dana Foundation Brain Awareness Week Grants

Brain Awareness Week is the global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science. Every March, partners host imaginative activities in their communities that share the wonders of the brain and the impact brain science has on our everyday lives. Brain Awareness Week was founded by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives (DABI) and the European Dana Alliance for the Brain (EDAB), and is coordinated by the Dana Foundation.

Apply for up to $1250 in funding to support your organization's Brain Awareness Week event or initiative by Oct. 1st. The next Brain Awareness Week will take place from March 13-19, 2023.

The National Academies review of federal policies that contribute to racial and ethnic health inequities

A new National Academies committee will be appointed to conduct an analysis of federal policies (e.g., social, economic, environmental) that contribute to preventable and unfair differences in health status and outcomes experienced by all U.S. racial and ethnic minority populations. Members of the public may submit written comments for consideration by the study committee (as individuals or on behalf of an organization) via email through September 30, 2022.
